Thought for Today for 9/7/2010

"Centered Upon God"
Centered Upon God
Bible Verse: The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. The face of the LORD is against evildoers, cut off the memory of them from the earth. The righteous cry and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Ps 34:15-18
My thought for today is the fact that the Lord is attentive to the needs of those who love Him, those called according to His good and perfect will. No one can sin with impunity and expected to be heard by God. Why would you even call upon the Lord God if you had no intention in getting to know Him? It seems quite remarkable that God hears through the noise of mankind and responds to those who love Him.
Your life might seem to be a mess right now. Sorrow, fear and anxiety nipping at your heals, but do not give up on God. He has not given up on you! He wants us to empty ourselves of the things that we may think we want to receive abundantly of the things that He wants to give us.
There is not much room to receive when we are so preoccupied with life. Perhaps the reason for David in writing this psalm is the fact that he realized in order to have a right relationship with God required that he be empty, having set aside his desires to receive the righteousness of God. David had witnessed first hand the saving grace of God.
As a little boy, tending his sheep, David was saved from the lion and the bear by the providence of God. David slew Goliath because he trusted God to defeat the armies of the Philistines because they had taunted the God of Israel. David running for his life from Saul for nearly a decade could have impacted the heart of anyone, but in his case it only heighten his resolve to turn to God and seek His righteousness.
We have the same choice. We can be fearful or faithful, empty in order to be filled, or selfless so as to serve those God has placed in our paths regardless of the circumstances of our lives. All is a matter of choice and therefore like David we must choose wisely.
Are you struggling? Do you fear? Has the weight of life crushed your spirit? There is One who awaits your call. Seek Him and His kingdom and the care of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.
