Acting Upon the Word of God
Bible Verse: “The sun will be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. “And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD Will be delivered; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape, As the LORD has said, Even among the survivors whom the LORD calls. Joel 2:31-32
My thought for today is the Lord is calling to mankind, but I am not sure that all are listening. As my loving wife often reminds me there is a great gap between hearing and listening. Most people hear the sounds, but few are engaged sufficiently in listening process to respond fully with all the heart, mind and being.
You do not need to hear Joel cry out for God. His words ring in our ears without a word being spoken out loud. Therefore even in reading we can hear, but listening to God’s call to action requires that we are engulfed in what we have read and it has called us into action.
Too many times we read words and feel nothing. After all they are only words there is really no call to respond. Today’s message is different. Joel is prophesying about the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. He reminds us that our call to action is now. Eternity is the reward for those who have listened, for those who have called upon the name of Jesus and claimed Him as Lord of their lives.
We need not use these words, Lord of our lives” if we truly are not going to allow His light to shine in our lives. Words do not equate to action. Faith acts! When we believe in Christ we are empowered to act.
Faith sets us a part as a people who have not only hear, but listened to the Word of God and obediently changes their lives to bring hon0oor and glory to His name.
Does your life reflect the fact that you have listened? Will you do as the Book of Revelation states, “read, heed and obey” the Word of God? You have been called. It is now up to you to respond. Words count for little in the kingdom of God, for action shows that you have truly believed.
