Jesus King of the Jews
Bible Verse: “For behold, in those days and at that time, When I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all the nations, And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; And they have divided up My land. Joel 3:1-2
My thought for today is God’s heart for the chosen people of Israel still beats and all will witness this loved some day. A third grader once asked me, if Jesus was still a Jew. This simple, innocent question stopped me in my tracks and caused me to think. After all Jesus did not come to abolish the law, but rather to fulfill it.
As I began to chat with this young child and his Sunday School teacher I realized that from his simplistic eyes nothing changed. Jesus was and is a Jew, because He came from the line of David. He knew the law written by Moses and the prophets better than any teacher of the law. Jesus recognized the intent of the law and lived His live and an example of truth.
Many of the Jews, His people, rejected Him. Some embraced His teaching worked hard to understand the full extent of His fulfillment of the law. There hearts beat like that of God, wanting all to come to a saving knowledge of God’s amazing grace.
Christ came into this world from His position in heaven to save ALL who would believe. The chosen people of God are still waiting for their Messiah. They missed His first coming, but will not miss His second. They are still a people after God’s heart, but that could be said of everyone of God’s creation.
He does not want even one person to perish, but rather all to have eternal life through faith in Jesus His Son. The Jews still have a special place in God’s heart but so do you and I. One day soon Jesus, who is still Jewish, a follower of the law of Moses as you and I should be will return and fulfill the promises of God. All who see and believe will be saved and on that day the “they will look upon the one they have pierced” believe and be saved.
Is your heart right with God? Do you feel like a person set a part or do you have a heart for the lost? We have a responsibility to allow the light of Christ to shine in our lives so that everyone we meet might want to know the Savior who has transformed our lives. It is in believing that we are saved.
